In 1998 ASHA's Executive Board (EB) established an Ad Hoc Committee upon Reading and Written Language Disorders to affirm the critical part of the speech-language pathologist (SLP) in literacy and to address the link between language skills and literacy skills. The committee is now in the final stages of completing a position statement, technical report, and guidelines pertaining to the "Role and Responsibilities of Speech-Language Pathologists Related to Reading and Writing in Children and Adolescents."
